Towards Sustainability: Tanzanian Vocational Training Centre for Deaf People

The Vocational Training Centre (VTC) for young deaf people in Tanzania is on its way towards self sustainability in just its first academic year.

Working with a parents led organisation UWAVIKA to provide their deaf children with a sustainable future the VTC’s first students are studying business enterprise, tailoring and carpentry. The skills and experience that the students will gain from the centre will empower them to become active members of their families and communities.

On top of this, the VTC will soon be celebrating its first harvest of crops grown by the students that both provide excellent experience in agriculture and also their own sources of food. This is great news and bodes well for the future sustainability of such an important programme for deaf children and young people in Tanzania.

Keep your eyes peeled for pictures of the harvest and future news!
