News from Zambia

We are pleased to have had news from Musukwa Frank in Zambia of a grant for a new resource centre.    He also sent us photos taken at a recent talent show, at which his school Valley View Deaf Unit won first prize.  He says “The grant is indeed a big joy, we anticipate it will improve the living standards of deaf persons in Zambia. Through this grant ZDYW hopes to build a Deaf Resource Centre and Liaison /Networking Venue. The centre would be of benefit to the deaf community as we intend to set up computer training centre as well as host a computerized Global Disability Right Library.  Colour photo of children watching talent showThe venue will work as a meeting and networking venue for the deaf persons, other people with disabilities, partners and for organized deaf persons’ training including disability and civic rights, entrepreneurship, ICT, health and Zambian Sign Language. The venue will be the first of its kind in Zambia and will go a long way in disability human rights, deaf youth/women’s social and economic welfare. Through partnerships with government departments, other organisations and the communities, the centre will be exploited for the full benefit of deaf people and the general community. This will directly impact on the lives of the deaf youth and women who are extremely vulnerable in Zambia.”
