Grow your own – The Vocational Training Centre for the Deaf in Tanzania has been able to slash its school fees by half, as students are now so successful at growing their own vegetables to eat and to sell in the local markets.  Student Hawa told us “Besides learning to sew and planting tree, I have learned about vegetable farming which previously I did not do nicely at home. Currently I know well to make good ridges, plant and watering the garden until when the vegetable are ready to be eaten. When they are ready I like to help the cook to harvest and sent them to the kitchen for cooking. As a woman I like to do vegetable farming and I thank God for getting an opportunity to study at the VTCD”.
