Harry Salter starts work at the Woodford Foundation

David (Harry) Salter, aged 23, starting work with the Woodford FoundationMap BackgroundA former Shrewsbury Sixth Form student has returned to the county town to embark on a career helping some of the poorest people in the world.

David ‘Harry’ Salter is celebrating his new job working for Shrewsbury-based charity the Woodford Foundation. Harry (23), originally from Bridgnorth, studied at Bridgnorth Endowed School and Shrewsbury Sixth Form College before going to University in Manchester. He will be helping the Woodford Foundation to increase their fundraising capacity.

Harry graduated last year with a degree in politics. He showed his commitment to charity work by working with Kidsafe and volunteering with the Big Issue. He will be looking to grow the Woodford Foundation’s supporter base and to increase the charity’s fundraising income. He will also be responsible for the charity’s twitter account (twitter.com/wfdeaf) and facebook page (facebook.com/wfdeaf).

The Woodford Foundation works in income poor countries to improve training and education for deaf children. The foundation is currently delivering projects in Uganda, Malawi, and Tanzania. Harry will join two other people in the Shrewsbury headquarters of the charity.

Harry Salter said:

“I really wanted to work for a voluntary organisation that was making a real difference to people’s lives. The Woodford Foundation is doing really important work with some of the poorest communities in the world and I am really proud that I will be able to contribute to that work. The fact that I can work for an international development charity in my home county is an added bonus.”

Mathew Gilbert is the charity’s Development Manager he said:

“We are a small organisation doing a really big job and we really needed to recruit someone special. Luckily we managed to find that person Harry is full of enthusiasm and has the right temperament to work in a challenging environment. He will work very well in the team.”
